TREATMENT
Beloit has units in two facilities on campus where our children live. We serve both boys and girls ages 5 to 15. Depending on a child’s unique situation, we offer several specialized units. For example, for girls who have behaviors related to sexual abuse, Beloit offers New Hope, a unit providing gender-specific programming and intensive treatment for girls.

We also offer PMIC units for children with at least two diagnoses and a boys residential treatment unit for boys with an IQ of 55 to 75.

Before you refer a child to residential treatment at Beloit, you should also consider what other treatment options are available, such as in-home services, medication management and individual or family therapy. Our intake supervisor can help you determine if residential treatment is the best option for your child now or if these other types of treatment should be explored first.

Once a child is admitted to Beloit, our staff is organized into a treatment team to best treat your child. Your child’s treatment team may include a therapist or caseworker, psychiatrist, nurse, case manager, program supervisor, DHS worker, attorney and guardian, teachers, volunteers and the parents. The treatment team measures progress weekly through the use of a treatment level system.

Treatment includes therapy components such as:

Individual therapy—a child discusses personal issues and concerns with their therapist or caseworker.

Group therapy—personal, family and peer problems and solutions are discussed in a small group setting with peers, staff or a therapist.

Family therapy—parents, family members and the child meet to discuss family-related issues and to work on family growth.

Milieu—In the living environment, staff members educate kids on topics like wellness, social skills, anger management, communication and conflict resolution.

School—Children attend school during the school year in the Ames School District or on campus.
