What is residential treatment like?
This example of a typical day at Bremwood starts in the morning:

A Day in the Life of Trinity Cottage

7:00 a.m.
Teens Josh, Amanda, Erin and the others wake up, eat breakfast and complete chores.

8:00 a.m.
The teens meet for community group during which they set and discuss their individual goals they will focus on throughout their day.

8:20 – 8:30 a.m.
Trinity Cottage residents head off to school. Josh and Erin attend Waverly Shell-Rock schools while the others attend classes in either the AEA 267 school, located on campus in Bremwood’s Lied Education Center, or with a teacher in their own cottage.

2:30 – 4:00 p.m.
The teens finish the school day and begin after school activities. Depending on the day, these activities might include homework, free time with each other or community service work if required. Teens can also choose to participate in voluntary spiritual life program activities offered at Bremwood.

4:00 p.m.
Trinity Cottage residents meet for skill group. Skill group helps them recognize the importance of their choices and to prevent recidivism in the community. Trinity residents may be seen picking up sticks in the fall, offering to take out others’ trash or even cleaning kitchens in the other cottages.

Residents call this “give back.” Staff also hear residents make comments such as, “I’ve never really done anything for the community I came from except mess it up. It feels good to be able to do something positive for someone else.”

5:00 p.m.
It’s supper time! Supper is made by staff in our Bremwood cafeteria. Trinity Cottage residents bring it back to their cottage and eat family style together.

5:30 p.m.
After completing chores and taking evening showers, Josh, Amanda, Erin and the others meet for their second community group. They reflect on their morning goals and receive feedback from their peers on the completion of their goals. This healthy, community-based environment allows residents to focus on their treatment and receive support from both peers and staff.

Depending on the day, the teens then participate in other groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, another skill group, recreation or a group facilitated by a caseworker. They then use the rest of their evening time to process their day, build relationships with other residents or their family members and finish homework.

9:15
Lights out!
