SPECIAL PROGRAMS
At Bremwood, we believe treatment doesn’t just involve therapy, counseling or education. It’s also about helping kids and teens learn how to build better relationships, live in community, explore new activities and opportunities and learn to have fun while being safe.

Summer Enrichment
A summer at Bremwood might include activities like a pottery program, arts and crafts, campfires, a recreation program and gardening. Teens also have a chance to attend a week-long day camp in July near Waverly where they enjoy horseback riding, canoeing, archery, swimming, ropes courses, recreation and games.

Community Service and Restitution
A number of kids arrive at Bremwood with court-ordered community service or restitution requirements. Our staff works to help them meet these requirements through community projects like planting flowers at the public library, mowing, raking leaves on campus or helping maintain a city bike and walking trail. We also offer AA and NA groups on campus for those required to attend or for those who might benefit.

Community Activities
Some youth participate regularly in the ASPIRE program, a horse therapy program held at a local stable. Older teens in the Exodus Exchange program also enjoy a monthly meal with members of the local community who can serve as a support and resource.

Mentor Program
The Bremwood mentor program is a popular activity on campus. Kids who want a mentor are matched with a local community volunteer who will serve as a big brother or sister to the teen. Our mentors receive support and training. Having a mentor gives our Bremwood residents a chance to practice relationship-building skills and to enjoy fun, new activities on campus or out in the community. It also inspires confidence as mentors help our teens develop their gifts and strengths.

Spiritual Life
Hope changes lives. That’s why we have a spiritual life program, funded through our donor support, that offers hope and love to kids who have had tough experiences. We invite everyone to participate in these activities, but participation is voluntary and not required.

Spiritual life activities include worship on Fridays in our chapel. Teens who have their own musical instruments are invited to use them during their stay at Bremwood and to share their gifts during worship.

Teens can also be a part of Wednesday night youth groups led by local college students, Bible studies, dance, choir and meditation groups. Our youth can also be part of a drumming circle, a new group that gives kids a chance to express their feelings through rhythm in a community setting. A drumming circle helps build leadership and community participation through an art form that feels like prayer or meditation. Teens can also join staff for a weekly movie that has a theme tailored to spirituality and character building.
