Lutheran Services in Iowa serves as the Iowa affiliate of Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR), a collaborative ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS). Following a major domestic disaster, LSI and LDR seek to minister to the urgent needs of affected community members, regardless of faith or creed. LSI responds to disasters throughout Iowa and assists communities and community members in rebuilding lives.
LSI accompanies families, individuals and congregations in communities preparing and responding to disasters. LSI provides:
- Long-term Recovery (Case Advocate)
- Hardship Grants
- Emotional and Spiritual Care
LSI is not a "first responder," but our response program works with the affected community to address the long-term unmet needs of residents impacted by disaster long after the cleanup phase is complete. In addition to support from an assigned case advocate, typical assistance may include purchasing a bed or other household items, paying an insurance deductible, paying a utility bill, rent assistance or addressing a wide range of uninsured or underinsured financial losses.
For more information on disaster response efforts by LSI, the Iowa affiliate of LDR, contact Pastor Michael Stadie at michael.stadie@lsiowa.org.
