Welcome to LSI’s Early Childhood Services — where every family’s journey into parenthood is supported with compassionate, research-based care. Becoming a new parent can feel overwhelming, and LSI understands that the earliest years of a child’s life lay the foundation for lifelong growth and well-being. Through in-home support, group connections, and tailored resources, our programs are designed to empower families from pregnancy through early childhood, helping parents build confidence, nurture healthy development, and connect with the community around them. From personalized home visits to support conversations and parent education, LSI walks beside you every step of the way as your family thrives.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need insurance to participate?
No. Our programs are free and do not require insurance. Our goal is to make support available to as many families as possible during pregnancy and the first year with a new baby.
Is there a cost for these services?
There is no cost to participate in HOPES programs. These services are supported through community partnerships and funding so families can receive support without financial stress.
Who can participate in LSI HOPES programs?
Our programs are available to families across Iowa who are pregnant or parenting a baby. Whether this is your first baby or not, you are welcome here. Our goal is to meet families where they are and provide support that fits their needs.
Can I enroll while I’m pregnant, or do I need to wait until after my baby is born?
You can join while you are pregnant, and many families find it helpful to start early. Pregnancy is a great time to learn, ask questions, and build support before your baby arrives. You are also welcome to join after your baby is born.
Is this available no matter where I live in Iowa?
Many of our services are available virtually, which allows families across the state to participate. Some home visiting services are offered in specific counties. If you are unsure what is available where you live, we are happy to help you find the best option.
What actually happens during a home visit?
Home visits are relaxed, supportive conversations focused on you and your baby. Your home visitor can answer questions, share helpful information about pregnancy or baby care, and connect you with resources if needed. Visits are always guided by what you want to talk about and what would be helpful for your family.
Will someone tell me how to parent?
No. Our goal is not to tell you how to parent, but to support you as you make the choices that feel right for your family. Home visitors share helpful information about pregnancy, babies, and child development, and you can decide what ideas feel useful for you.
Every family is different, and we respect that you know your family best. Our role is to listen, answer questions, and offer support so you feel more confident in your parenting.
Can anyone have a home visitor?
Parenting a new baby can be stressful for anyone, and many families find it helpful to have extra support during pregnancy and the early months with a baby. Some home visiting programs do have eligibility guidelines based on things like where you live, your baby’s age, or other program requirements.
If one program is not the right fit, we can help you explore other options and find support that works for your family. Our goal is to make sure you have access to helpful resources during this important time.
Is home visiting only for first-time parents?
No. Many families participate with their second, third, or later children. Every pregnancy and every baby can bring new experiences, and support can be helpful at any stage of parenting.
Do both parents or caregivers need to be present for visits?
No. Visits can happen with whichever caregiver is available. Partners or other caregivers are welcome to participate if they would like, but it is not required.
What if my schedule changes often?
We understand that schedules can be unpredictable, especially with a new baby. Home visitors work with families to find visit times that fit their routines as much as possible.
Can I stop participating if it isn’t the right fit for my family?
Yes. Participation is always your choice. You can decide at any time whether you would like to continue, take a break, or stop services.
Will my information be kept private?
Yes. Your privacy is important to us. Information shared during visits is kept confidential, and your home visitor will explain how information is protected and when it may need to be shared.
HOPES Village Classes FAQs
Can my partner, support person, or family member attend classes with me?
Yes! We encourage partners and support people to join when they can. Having someone learn alongside you can make it easier to share responsibilities and feel more prepared together.
What if I miss a class or can’t attend live?
We understand that schedules change, especially during pregnancy and with a new baby. If you miss a class, we can help you find another session or share resources so you still get the information you need.
Do I need any special equipment or technology to join a virtual class?
All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with internet access. The classes are designed to be easy to join, and we can help if you have trouble connecting. You are welcome to participate in whatever way feels most comfortable for you.
Perinatal Support FAQs
Is perinatal support the same as therapy or counseling?
Perinatal support is not therapy, but it is a safe space to talk with someone who understands pregnancy and postpartum experiences. A perinatal specialist can answer questions, listen, and share evidence-based information. If you ever need additional support, we can also help connect you with other trusted resources.
What kinds of questions or concerns can I talk about with a perinatal specialist?
You can talk about anything related to pregnancy, postpartum recovery, feeding your baby, preparing for birth, or adjusting to life with a new baby. Some parents also use this time to talk through worries, emotional changes, or questions they are unsure who to ask. There is no “wrong” reason to reach out.
Can I reach out for support even if I only need help once?
Yes. You are welcome to reach out whether you have one question or would like ongoing support. Our goal is simply to make sure you have someone to turn to when you need it.
